NEWBURGH, NY – The Orange Lake, Winona Lake, Good Will, Air National Guard, and Coldenham Fire Departments responded to an automatic fire alarm at Sapphire Nursing Home on Meadow Hill Road on June 5th. Upon arrival, firefighters were directed by staff to the rear of the building, where employees had been using welding equipment and accidentally started a small fire. The fire had already been extinguished prior to firefighters' arrival. Firefighters checked the area and thoroughly soaked the pile where the fire had occurred to ensure there was no possibility of rekindle. All units returned to quarters shortly afterward.
