Shartlesville, PA — May 20, 2026 The Shartlesville Community Fire Company #1 has placed a new Electric Vehicle Discharge Line (EVDL) into service to strengthen the department’s response capabilities for electric and hybrid vehicle emergencies.

With EV traffic increasing along Interstate 78, the department identified the need for a specialized tool to address the unique hazards associated with high-voltage battery systems. The EVDL provides a direct method for delivering cooling water into compromised battery modules, supporting safer and more efficient stabilization during thermal runaway events.

The equipment was delivered on May 6, 2026, followed by hands-on training for department personnel. Firefighters reviewed deployment procedures, safety considerations, and integration with existing suppression operations.
