The Binghamton Fire Department's Groups C and D responded to two different building fires early on May 20.

According to officials, the first incident happened near Main Street and Florence Street, where workers found an occupied building's working basement fire. Firefighters evacuated the building's residents while attempting to put out the fire.

A city mowing team reported to emergency personnel that smoke was pouring from the attic of a single-family home on Westmoor Place close to the armory while operations were in progress. Additional stations arrived to the second fire, where personnel successfully put out the attic fire, while firefighters from the Main Street incident were transferred.

The department thanked its emergency services partners, including Superior Ambulance, Broome County Emergency Services, NYSEG, and the Binghamton Police Department, for their assistance.
