Multi-Agency Response Supports Aircraft Recovery in New Salem

NEW SALEM, MASS. — May 1st — An airplane involved in an incident at the Quabbin Reservoir O'Loughlin Regulating Pond was successfully removed without any more issues, according to the New Salem Fire Department. Fire, police, diving rescue, environmental, and aviation professionals were among the local, state, and federal agencies who participated in the recovery effort. While preserving the reservoir and the nearby natural resources, responders worked to securely remove the airplane.


The Massachusetts State Police, Orange Fire Department, Northfield Dive Rescue, Environmental Police, Department of Environmental Protection, Department of Conservation and Recreation, Massachusetts Water Resources Authority, and a number of specialized recovery teams were among the participating organizations. According to officials, the exercise showed how crucial interagency collaboration and coordinated emergency response are. Regarding the occurrence, no further details were made public.
