This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

MONTAGUE, MASS. — May 5th — The Montague Center Fire Department - Inc. 1941 responded to a brush fire that was rapidly spreading because of dry weather and high winds. As the fire grew through grass and brush, mutual aid companies were called in for a first-alarm assignment shortly after personnel arrived. In order to control the fire and safeguard neighboring homes and other structures, firefighters used handlines and coordinated suppression efforts.

Additional personnel helped with scene support, water delivery, and fire attack. Firefighters were able to contain the situation and halt the fire's advancement by coordinating their reaction. Because dry vegetation and windy conditions can raise the risk of wildfires, spring brush fires continue to be a worry throughout New England. There were no reported injuries.
