MELBOURNE, FL - A semi crossing railway tracks on Lake Washington Road in Melbourne was totally destroyed by a northbound Florida East Coast railway freight train on May 29th. The driver escaped uninjured, jumping from the cab before impact. The train pushed the flatbed trailer down the tracks, taking the cab with it and demolishing the safety gates and warning system. One track remained open. Police closed surrounding roads until the tracks were cleared.
