This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

Navarre, Fla. — At approximately 17:26 hours on May 28, 2025, the Holley-Navarre Fire District responded to a residential structure fire in the 2500 block of Holley Court. A 911 caller reported smoke coming from the garage and noted the home was unoccupied, but there may have been dogs inside.

Engine 41 arrived on scene and confirmed a working fire in the garage. Firefighters initiated an aggressive interior attack and quickly knocked down the flames. During the search, crews located a large Rottweiler inside a cage in the garage. The dog, later identified as “Sydney,” was removed from the home and found to be in respiratory distress. Sydney was turned over to Lifeguard E.M.S. personnel, who administered oxygen using a pet-specific mask. A local veterinarian was contacted and coordinated with emergency crews to receive the dog at an animal hospital. Sid was transported by ambulance due to his condition. As of the latest update, he is reported to be recovering. A second Rottweiler was also located inside the home but was not in distress.

The fire was confined primarily to the garage area. The cause remains under investigation, though it appears to be accidental in nature. No firefighter injuries were reported.
