Engine 6 Responded to Large Commercial Fire Incident

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

WARREN, R.I. — May 3rd — The Warren Fire Department's Engine 6 and Car 1 arrived at J&J Materials in Rehoboth to help put out a sizable mulch fire. As activities concentrated on containing the fire and preventing its spread to adjacent mulch heaps and equipment, firefighters from the department, which is based at 1 Joyce St. in Warren, joined crews from nearby municipalities. Because heat can persist deep within huge piles even after visible flames are extinguished, mulch fires frequently need prolonged procedures.

To reach hot spots and carry out extinguishment measures, crews deployed heavy machinery, hose lines, and overhaul operations. Because outdoor material fires require coordination and a water supply, fire departments around the region often train for these types of accidents.
