Freetown, MA - Freetown Fire responded to a reported shed fire behind 5 Matawa Drive in Assonet while the duty crew was already handling a commercial fire alarm on Mill Street. After confirming the alarm to be accidental, Deputy Lafleur redirected Engine 3 to the Matawa Drive incident.

On arrival, crews encountered heavy fire involvement on a rear porch with extension into an attached structure. A working fire assignment was transmitted, initiating a full recall of Freetown personnel and bringing in tanker support from Berkley and Lakeville, along with assistance from Mass DCR.

Despite the structure being located a significant distance from the roadway, crews achieved a quick knockdown and limited damage to the exterior of the residence.

During the incident, additional units were dispatched to 120 Howland Road for reports of smoke in a residence. That call was traced to a malfunctioning electric range with no fire extension.
