At approximately 0600 hours Edison Fire Department stations 1,2, and 3 were dispatched to Interstate 287 Northbound near exit 2A for a vehicle that crashed into a gasoline tanker carrying 8800-gallons of fuel. While responding the first due engine received multiple reports of the gasoline tanker and the car were fully invoked, and had a column of smoke in the air, and immediately  requested Middlesex County Hazmat. When Engine 1 arrived they had 2 large areas of fire, fire in storm drains, and requested an additional engine.  Fire also extended into the woods in Metuchen, which prompted a full response from Metuchen Fire Department. Shortly after crews began attacking the fire, the Middlesex County Foam Task-Force and Middlesex County Tanker Task-Force were also requested due to the large amount of fuel on fire and the water needed. Crews from five counties and over 150 firefighters operated on the scene for over 5 hours.
