Multiple Injuries at Vehicle Crash in Mastic.

Mastic, N.Y. –  On April 29th, 2024, at about 5:45PM the Suffolk County emergency dispatch center received a call for a vehicle crash in the area of #25 Elanore Ave. The Suffolk County Police 7th Precinct dispatched sector cars to respond the Mastic Fire Department and Mastic Ambulance companies to the scene. 


 


On arrival Mastic FD Chief Steve Januszkiewicz {5-12-30} and assistant Chief Rudy Sunderman {5-12-31} found a 2-vehicle crash with 1 vehicle on the lawn.  They advised on one was trapped. There was heavy damage to the vehicles and a lot of clean up was needed of fluids and debris. The Fire crews from Rescue 5-12-10 and Engine 5-12-4 continued into the scene and secured the vehicles and cleaned up the scene. While fire crews were working on that Mastic Ambulance was working on evaluating patients and requested mutual aid for additional ambulances to the scene. Med-Com dispatched Mastic Beach and Shirley Ambulance to the scene to assist. Stony Brook University Hospital Medic 65, which also covers the area was also on scene. 


 


Multiple People were evaluated on scene as well as transported to a local hospital for further treatment.  While fire and rescue personnel operated Elanore Ave was closed by Suffolk Police and Mastic FD Fire Police between Mastic Rd and Clover St for the safety of rescue personnel. All FD were back in service in about 35 minutes.
