UPPER SADDLE RIVER, NJ - No hydrants in the area posed major issues as flames spread throughout the second-floor and attic of a large home in Upper Saddle River on May 16th.
Heavy flames were across the second-floor as units pulled up to 19 Lake Road at 2:30 in the afternoon. The first due engine was instructed to lead off with their deck gun. Second, third and fourth alarms were struck as fire spread to the attic and then through the roof. A tanker shuttle was set up with engines from the east side and a drafting operation by Allendale from a stream on the west side, supplying Ramsey and Waldwick tower ladders, as well as several hand lines.
The roof collapsed in less than one half hour. After that, the intensity of the fire diminished. By 4:30 P.M., the blaze was able to be placed under control. One firefighter was reported to have suffered a non-life-threatening injury. There were no reported injuries to any residents. Investigator's preliminary cause is believed to be accidental.
