Norwich Responds to Vehicle Fire on Route 395

NORWICH, CT - On Saturday, May 13th shortly after 12:00 A.M., the East Great Plain Vol. Fire Co. was dispatched to Route 395 southbound, north of exit 11, for a vehicle fire. While en route, there were conflicting reports of the exact location of the incident.


Norwich Dispatch started the Mohegan Tribal Fire Dept. and the Yantic Fire Engine Co. to the assignment. Car 5 arrived first to find the vehicle fully involved and the operator out of the vehicle. Mohegan Tribal Engine 1 arrived a few minutes after, as well as East Great Plain Engine 52. The crew from MTFD E1 stretched an attack line and the crew from E52 assisted with extinguishing the fire.


Yantic Fire Co. arrived and assisted at the scene. Connecticut State Police shut the southbound side of the highway down during the incident to ensure the safety of the firefighters during suppression operations. The operator of the vehicle was evaluated by American Ambulance. The fire is being investigated by the Norwich Fire Marshal's Office.
