LEVANT, ME - As part of a big mutual aid assignment, Charleston Fire Department personnel responded to a reported structure fire at 160 Wing Road in Levant on April 17th. Following reports of thick smoke emanating from the residence's eaves, Penobscot Regional Communications Center raised the incident to a second alarm. When emergency personnel arrived, they discovered a single-story home's back porch area was heavily burned, with flames spreading throughout the building and endangering an adjacent outbuilding. Later, while personnel battled to safeguard surrounding buildings, the fire was elevated to a third alarm. In around 40 minutes, firefighters from several agencies started water supply operations and contained the fire. The State Fire Marshal's Office is looking into the cause, although no injuries were reported.
