Camper fire spreads to house and garage in Caledonia

CALEDONIA, NY - On Monday, May 12, at 3:27 p.m., firefighters from Caledonia, Mumford, Scottsville, East Avon (FAST) and CHS EMS were dispatched to a report of a camper on fire in the rear of 3181 East Avenue in the village of Caledonia.


Upon arrival, units found the blaze had spread to a garage and house, also threatening another nearby home.


The fire quickly escalated to 3 alarms, bringing a large mutual aid response from Avon, Le Roy, York, Leicester/Cuylerville, Livonia, Bergen, Pavilion, Spencerport, Chili and Churchville fire departments.


Two birds were lost and several cats were rescued by firefighters.


It was declared under control in about an hour and there were no injuries reported.


The occupants of the home were being assisted by the Red Cross.


The cause of the blaze remains under investigation, but may have been caused by a campfire that may not have been fully extinguished from earlier in the day.


Also assisting at the scene were Caledonia Police, Livingston County Emergency Management, Livingston County Sheriff's Office, New York State Police, New York State DEC, National Grid and Rochester Gas and Electric.
