NORWALK, CT - Norwalk Fire responded to a reported house fire at #2 Cossett Road on May 9th. The house was fully involved with fire showing on all floors, and there were three cars on fire in the driveway. This was a two-story home with a basement apartment.

There was a hoarding condition at the home, along with flammable liquids and propane tanks in the garage. There were also motorcycles and many car parts in the garage. All of this contributed to a large fire load, making extinguishment difficult.

All occupants managed to exit the home safely with one dog. One cat expired in the home. Two neighbors were treated for smoke inhalation. One firefighter was transported to Norwalk Hospital with heat exhaustion. The fire went to a second-alarm with surrounding towns covering our stations. The fire is still under investigation for cause. The house is a total loss, displacing all six occupants.
