Storms Slow Response

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

On April 29th, severe thunderstorms packing hail and strong winds swept through New York, peaking around 5 PM and causing widespread wind damage across Oneida County. The Forestport Firefighters Inc, assisted by mutual aid from neighboring departments, responded to a reported structure fire on O'Brien Road and North Lake Road. Their response was hampered by downed trees and wires blocking roads. Upon arrival, they found a single-story home with smoke and flames visible on the street side, originating from an exterior electrical panel. After power was cut and entry made, the home was cleared of further fire. Firefighters remained on scene for National Grid, and later, some units assisted the highway department with road clearing after mutual aid departments were released.
