Three-Alarm Fire Damages Old Factory Building in New Britain

NEW BRITAIN, CT - A 3-alarm fire heavily damaged an old factory building at 27 Columbus Boulevard on May 7th. The five-story building was constructed around 1900 as the National Spring Bed Company. Numerous companies have occupied the building over the years. The building also has an address of 59 High Street, as it spreads along Columbus Boulevard and up a section of High Street. New Britain firefighters were assisted by a Engine and Ladder Tower from the City of Hartford. Firefighters worked all night and into the next morning chasing hotspots and flare ups. The cause is under investigation by City and State Fire Marshals. No injuries were reported.
