Brentwood Working Fire

On March 11th at 7:03 AM the Brentwood Fire Department was activated for a reported structure fire at 83 Massachusetts Avenue. SO-2 Safety Officer and Ex-Chief Mike Derbyshire was first on the scene and reported heavy fire from inside the structure. Chief Ed Kelly enroute had dispatch transmit the working fire and arrived at the scene and set up command. First in Engine 3-2-15 arrived and stretched two hand lines to the front door. An aggressive attack ensued with the truck company from 3-2-8 initiating a search. They were able to make entry to the exterior basement entrance and notified command of fire in the basement. By this time the engine company had made good headway to the fully involved structure and extensive overhaul took place. The occupied structure was a total loss and no injuries were reported. Mutual aid companies that responded were Islip, Central Islip, Bay Shore, and East Brentwood. EMS support was provided by Brentwood Legion Ambulance Corp.Islip Town Coordinator 3-0-4 and FC-33 were also on scene as well as the Town of Islip Fire Marshal's Office. Units were back in service at 9:30 AM.
