Mutual Aid Crews Contain Lake Wanda Structure Fire

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

Highland Lakes, NJ — April 21st — A structure fire in Vernon Township's Lake Wanda neighborhood prompted the Highland Lakes Fire Department to respond. Under county response plans, assistance was provided by the fire departments of Vernon, Pochuck, and McAfee as well as Warwick, Upper Greenwood Lake, Hardyston, and Sussex.

When crews arrived, they discovered a house on fire that had spread to a nearby car. While truck workers assisted with overhaul and ventilation, engine firms developed hand lines. Due to the restricted access to hydrants in the area, tanker operations and water delivery were coordinated. The fire was suppressed and exposures were shielded by crews. There were no reported injuries. Both the vehicle and the structure were severely damaged. Before going back into service, units were in operation for a long time.
