Car Fire Spreads to Woods, Prompts Multi-Agency Response in Newton

NEWTON, NJ - Following a report from the Sussex County Sheriff's 911 Center, Hampton Township Fire & Rescue responded to a car fire on Mary Jones Road, April 28th. The New Jersey State Police, the New Jersey Forest Fire Service, the Fredon Volunteer Fire Company, and the Stillwater Area Volunteer Fire Company provided assistance. On arrival, units discovered a car fire that had spread to the wood line. Crews moved a hand line for suppression as Engine 2 stretched a 3-inch supply line. Water supply operations were aided by tankers. Access was impeded and fire conditions were prolonged due to a burst fuel tank. Crews worked for a little more than two hours.
