Swift Water Rescue Highlights Busy Half Hour for Old Saybrook Crews

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

Old Saybrook Fire Department’s fireboat was dispatched to the mouth of the Connecticut River for a kayaker in distress.

Upon arrival, crews located and rescued the individual, who had been in the water for nearly 30 minutes.

The patient was brought to shore, where Old Saybrook Ambulance and Middlesex Paramedics provided treatment before transporting them to a medical facility.

Marine support during the incident was provided by units from Old Lyme, Westbrook, and the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, while the U.S. Coast Guard was notified.

The water rescue was part of a rapid ????? of calls handled by crews in a short timeframe.

Firefighters and police initially responded to a reported marine emergency in the Fenwood area that was later determined to be a false alarm.

Shortly after, units were dispatched again—this time to Route 9—for a separate medical call, working alongside Essex Ambulance.
