Sayville N.Y. On the afternoon of Sunday May 2nd, The Suffolk County Volunteer Firemen’s Association & Ladies Auxiliary held their 83rd Annual Reverend John P. Halpin Memorial Service. This service is usually held annually in May to honor the Suffolk County Firefighters and Ladies Auxiliary members that passed in the previous year.

However due to the impacts of the Covid-19 Pandemic the service was not able to be held in 2020. This would not stop those that passed the year prior from being honored and remembered. This years’ service at the Sayville FD Station 2 honored those who passed away from May 2019 to present. A total of 213 Firefighters were remembered this included 2 line of duty deaths. Additionally, 39 Ladies Auxiliary members were memorialized. The service was attended by many uniformed members from departments across Suffolk County as well as Dignitaries including Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone, Members of the Suffolk Legislature and Commissioner of Fire Rescue John Jordan. Also in attendance were family members and friends of those lost.

The reading of the names of those lost lasted about a half hour and bag pipes were also played during portions of the service. Since not everyone could attend in person the service was live streamed via Facebook and Zoom.
