On March 31, 2026 at 6:52 PM, The Clifton Park Fire Department along with mutual aid from the Hill Crest Fire Department, Halfmoon-Waterford Fire Department, Visher Ferry Fire Department, Mechanicville Fire Department, and Jonesville Fire Department responded to 1 Freeman Lane for working structure fire called in by a fire chief.
The fire chief had a well involved commercial garage with two vehicles inside of it with heavy fire shooting over 40 feet into the air even with the heavy rain coming down on scene. With heavy black smoke showing from over a mile away in the heavy evening traffic on route 146 began to slow down as they approach the scene as drivers became distracted due to the heavy column of smoke and the visible fire. The first arriving unit immediately deployed a ancient three-quarter hand line off the front of the rig and began to conduct an aggressive knockdown of the heavy fire condition in the garage. The Chief on scene with limited manpower immediately transmitted the second alarm bringing additional resources to the scene. Firefighters quickly began to arrive on scene behind the first due engine and established a water supply. With heavy fire still inside of the garage and the roof of the structure had collapsed firefighters continued to make aggressive efforts to bring the incident under control.
Firefighters had significant issues with gaining access to a fire that had burned through a gas tank in one of the vehicles inside of the garage and had a free-flowing fuel fire. Firefighters continued to hit the heavy fire in the two vehicles and knock down the remaining fire from the exterior portion of the structure. As firefighters were working on scene heavy storms pushed through the area with significant amounts of lightning and heavy rain. Firefighters on scene once the power was secured to the building was able to finish knocking down all of the remaining fire. Firefighters began to conduct extensive overhaul on scene of the badly damaged garage.
Firefighters remained on scene for an extended period of time. No injuries were reported. Saratoga County Fire Investigator’s arrived on scene and began to work on a determining the cause of the fire, but at this time no cause has been released to the public. Firefighters went back into service later that evening.
