Deposit, NY - Deposit Fire Department, alongside Eastern Broome Emergency Services and New York State Police, responded to a reported brush fire threatening a residence in the Town of Sanford.
Upon arrival, crews encountered a working fire burning approximately three-quarters of an acre and advancing within close proximity to the home.
Firefighters quickly deployed coordinated suppression efforts, with one crew protecting the structure while others attacked the fire from multiple points to stop forward spread.
Additional resources supported operations, including firefighter rehab and the use of an ATV for overhaul. Despite efforts, two unused outbuildings on the property were lost.
The fire was determined to be caused by an illegal open burn. Officials remind residents that a burn ban remains in effect to reduce the risk of similar incidents.
