At after 10:45 p.m. on April 22, the Jamestown Volunteer Fire Department responded to a working fire at Watson Farm on North Road.
When Chief 1 arrived, he discovered a fully occupied 60-by-80-foot barn with established command and exposures on both sides. While personnel guarded a nearby occupied house approximately fifty feet away and made sure all residents were evacuated, Engine 2 extended the original attack lines. Drafting from a water source around 400 feet away from the location was part of the establishment of a rural water delivery operation.
Mutual aid companies from North Kingstown, Newport, Middletown, and Portsmouth responded to assist. A total of five handlines were placed in service, and the fire was brought under control in about 30 minutes. Crews remained on scene for overhaul and equipment repacking before clearing.
