Monsey Firefighters Contain School Basement Blaze, No Injuries Reported

On April 22nd at 11:30 AM, Monsey firefighters were dispatched to 161 Remsen Ave. for a report of a fire. On arrival, smoke was visible from all floors of a large home that was being used as a school, and rented by a group of girls visiting from Canada. A second alarm was transmitted as firefighters confirmed all occupants were safely evacuated. 

 

The seat of the fire was located in the basement and quickly knocked down. A third alarm was sounded as crews vented and overhauled. The blaze was placed under control by 1:30. There were no reported injuries and the blaze is under investigation. 

 

Mutual aid at the scene included Hillcrest, West Nyack, Suffern, Spring Valley, Pearl River, Tappan, Thiells, and South Spring Valley, with Orangeburg covering the Monsey firehouse.
