EDISON, NJ - On April 22nd, the NJ Fire & EMS Institute held a safety and tactics seminar at Middlesex College, in Edison.

The first topic griped the 250 attendees' attention, which hits home. A cancer awareness and actions to reduce the risk of cancer for firefighters was discussed by the President and C.E.O. of the Firefighter Cancer Support Group, Bryan Frieders, a retired California fire chief. In the discussion, he stated that some 85 percent of cancer causing materials can be removed from gear with soap and water at the fire scene.
