Bellmore Members Complete VFW Repair Project

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

BELLMORE, NY — March 29th — The Bellmore VFW received assistance from the Bellmore Fire Department in fixing a damaged flagpole at their local post. A recent blizzard had damaged the rope and pulley system, which needed to be replaced in order to resume normal operation. To safely finish the repair, firefighters employed an aerial device to reach the top of the pole.

Departments continue to perform community service duties like these on a regular basis, particularly when specialized equipment is required. A U.S. Navy veteran watched the work being done while standing close to the flagpole. His grandchild was the firefighter working in the bucket, demonstrating the link between generations of community service.
