Eastport Crews Knock Down Chimney Fire in One Hour

EASTPORT, NY - When the Eastport Fire Department arrived on Friday night, April 3rd, in response to a reported chimney fire, it was quickly upgraded to a working fire.


Chief Virginia Haughn assumed command after noticing smoke coming from the eaves. Using the residents' knowledge to locate the fire, Engine 5-8-3 extended a handline to the attic. Within about an hour, the situation was under control thanks to the crews' prompt discovery and containment of the fire.


5-8-31, 5-8-32, Engine 5-8-5, and Fire Police 5-8-8 were among the other Eastport units present.


The fire departments of Westhampton Beach, East Moriches, Quogue, and Manorville provide mutual aid coverage. Westhampton War Memorial Ambulance, Westhampton Beach Police, and Southampton Town Police all provided assistance.
