NEW MILFORD, NJ - Heavy fire consumed the attic of a large two-story home Saturday evening, April 22nd, that apparently started on the exterior of the home.

A call came in to Central Dispatch shorly after 6:00 P.M. for a reported outside fire at 744 Holly St. with the caller seeing flames. New Milford's Chief arrived on scene and transmitted a working fire as he had fire up the 'Delta' side of the home and into the attic.

Engine 32 and Tower 31 arrived on scene and made an interior attack from the second floor. Heavy fire vented through the roof as crews attempted to extinguish the fire. Heavy fire continued to engulf the attic area as a second-alarm was transmitted.

Interior crews aggressivly attacked the fire, however the fire load and structural integrity of the home led to the evacuation of the home. All members went to exterior operations as New Milford and Oradell Towers went into opreration to knock down the heavy fire. Additional mutual aid was requested to the scene to assist in fire operations.

It took firefighters 30 minutes to bring the fire under control. No injuries were reported. Mutual aid from River Edge, Oradell, Dumont, Bergenfield, Haworth, Demarest, Closter, and Emerson assisted on scene. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
