Providence, NY - An area resident decided to take an adventure into a wooded area in the Town of Providence which is located in the northwestern part of Saratoga County (NY). An area that he was not familiar with, after about two hours in the woods, the hiker lost his way around. Daylight disappeared and the night fell in quickly making it more difficult forhim to find his way out of the woods. After realizing his cell phone had less than 10 percent power, he turned off the phone in hopes the battery would generate an extra few percent of battery life. It was about an hour later when he turned his cell phone back on to summon help. At about 8:53 PM, his cellular 911 call was answered by the Fulton County Sheriff's 911 Center. Successful capture of the hiker's GPS coordinates were handed off to Saratoga County Sheriff's Office. Saratoga County 911 Center dispatched Sheriff and State Police patrols to the area as well as the Providence Fire Department. The Providence Fire Department summoned mutual aid from Galway Fire Department to bring man power and their argo UTV. A command post was established. Using the coordinates provided by Fulton County, a team was deployed into the woods, consisting Sheriff's K-9 Unit, Firefighters and a team on the argo UTV. Once the argo UTV team advanced into the woods using the coordinates provided, the lost hiker was located soon after and transported back to the command post were he was turned over to Galway EMS for evaluation. No injuries were reported and another successful operation ended with a positive outcome.
