ROWAYTON, CT - The City of Norwalk Fire Department, along with the Rowayton Volunteer Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Wednesday, April 17th, at 5:02 P.M.

The fire, located at #4 Crest Rd in Rowayton, was in a one-story wood-frame residential structure. Initial reports stated that the house was on fire with one occupant outside suffering from burns.

Upon arrival, Norwalk Engine 5 along with Rowayton Car 4 encountered fire coming from the rear of the structure. The sole occupant was across the street suffering from smoke inhalation along with a Rowayton Firefighter suffering from a wrist laceration.

The fire gutted the entire interior of the residence. The fire was extinguished in 30 minutes using one handline in conjunction with vertical and horizontal ventilation. The responding fire apparatus consisted of two Norwalk Engines, two Rowayton Engines, and one Norwalk Ladder Truck. Rowayton Car 1, along with Norwalk Car 2 had command of the scene. Firefighters remained on scene for over an hour chasing hot spots and performing overhaul.

Currently, there is one occupant displaced by this blaze. There was one reported injury to a Rowayton firefighter and one reported injury to a 70-year-old male civilian. Both were transported to local hospitals. Their conditions are unknown at this time.

The Norwalk Fire Marshal Division along with the Rowayton Fire Marshal are both investigating the cause of the fire.
