Westfield Fire Department Supports Plainfield During Working Fire

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

WESTFIELD, NJ — March 10th — While Plainfield fire companies worked at a structure fire, the Town of Westfield, NJ Fire Department came to Plainfield for a cover assignment. In order to maintain emergency coverage throughout the city during the incident, a Westfield ladder company was sent to stand by at a Plainfield fire station. Regional mutual help frequently includes cover assignments, which enable nearby departments to continue providing fire protection while local units are dedicated to a working fire.

Through these partnerships, the Westfield Fire Department often provides assistance to neighboring Union County villages. In order to maintain response resources during prolonged incidents, ladder and engine companies are frequently relocated into neighboring jurisdictions. Until the structure fire was contained, Westfield firemen stayed in Plainfield.
