STEPHENTOWN, NY - On April 1, 2025, at 11:43 PM, the Stephentown Fire Department and Ambulance were dispatched for multiple calls for a reported structure fire at 365 Route 43, at Cinch ‘Em Up Stables Horseback Riding, for a fully-involved barn fire. The chief of the Stephentown Fire Department requested Berlin Fire Department, Hoags Corners Fire Department, Lebanon Valley Protection Association, and the Hancock Fire Department from Massachusetts to the scene for mutual aid.

The chief arrived on scene, immediately declared the Signal 30 for a working structure fire and notified the dispatcher that he had an exposure issue of the primary house. The first arriving engine on scene immediately went to work cooling down the home, preventing the fire from spreading.

Command notified the dispatcher that he had a 80' x 100’ barn, with no animals inside, that had collapsed. Command requested firefighters from the Berlin Fire Department to set up a water supply at a nearby pond down the road. Firefighters from the Hancock and Stephentown Fire Departments arrived on scene and deployed a one-and-three-quarter-inch hand line from the rig and went to work knocking down the heavy fire condition.

Firefighters established a water supply at the pond nearby and established a tanker relay to the scene. Firefighters worked for about 30 minutes knocking down the heavy fire condition. Firefighters conducted extensive overhaul of the remains of the barn. The home suffered damage to the siding windows and other portions of the structure due to the extreme heat, but due to the quick actions of the first arriving engine and firefighters, they were able to prevent the fire from spreading to the home. No injuries have been reported, and the fire is under investigation at this time.
