At around 9:40 p.m. on March 14th, Hampstead Fire-Rescue responded to a complaint of a residential building fire at 52 Village Green Road. The first Hampstead Police unit arrived and reported major fire in two of the building's eight units.
First responders' early actions assisted in evacuating residents and limiting the spread of the fire. One occupant self-extricated from the building and was taken to a nearby hospital.
The event was escalated to a second alarm. Two units suffered significant fire damage, with smoke and water damage reported throughout the complex. Hampstead firefighters evacuated the site around 2:00 a.m. on March 15th.
Hampstead Fire-Rescue received assistance from the Hampstead Police Department as well as mutual aid departments from Salem, Atkinson, Plaistow, Derry, Londonderry, Windham, and Kingston. The Southeast New Hampshire Hazardous Materials Team's "Air and Rehabilitation Unit" also responded. Chester Fire supplied station coverage while Londonderry Fire Dispatch handled communications and 9-1-1 call processing.
Town officials stated that information on how to assist affected families will be published on the Town of Hampstead's Facebook site.
