On March 8th, about 6:00 p.m., Hampstead Fire-Rescue responded to a reported barn fire at 316 Main Street. The first arriving unit reported a working fire and asked further reinforcements.
Dense storage conditions inside the barn exacerbated the fire load and made suppression attempts difficult. Due to conditions, operations transitioned to a defensive strategy. Firefighters remained on the scene for several hours, eliminating hot areas and preventing rekindling.
The last units cleared the site around 2:00 a.m. on March 9th. Because of the structure and its contents, the incident required a significant amount of effort and resources.
Mutual aid departments that assisted on the site included Derry, Salem, Sandown, Danville, Atkinson, Auburn, and Windham. Plaistow firemen supplied station coverage during the incident, while Londonderry Fire Dispatch handled 9-1-1 calls and communications.
