Structure Fire in Newport Contained with Mutual Aid Support

Downe, NJ - On March 31, 2026, at approximately 9:51 AM, Engine 39 and mutual aid departments were dispatched to Newport for a reported structure fire. Upon arrival, Deputy 39 observed a shed fully involved in fire, with flames extending into a nearby hedgerow.
Engine 39 arrived on scene and deployed two 1¾-inch handlines to initiate fire attack. Fire crews were able to quickly bring the situation under control, resulting in the incident being downgraded to responding and on-scene units.
Mutual aid partners provided valuable assistance during the incident, including Cedarville Fire Department, Port Norris Fire Company, Bridgeton Fire Prevention Bureau, New Jersey Forest Fire Service, Cumberland County Sheriff's Department, and the New Jersey State Police.
