New Durham Firefighters Support Alton Fire Operations

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

Alton, NH — March 18th — A second-alarm structure fire was reported in the Town of Alton, prompting the New Durham Fire Department to react. In order to support the Alton Fire Department and other mutual aid organizations working at the scene, Engine 2 was sent out with a crew of three firefighters. In rural New Hampshire, multiple departments are frequently needed to support staffing, water supply, and suppression efforts for second-alarm fires. Under the guidance of the incident command system, engine companies usually help with fire attack, overhaul, and other fireground activities.

A crew of two firefighters stayed at the New Durham station to cover in-town emergency calls while Engine 2 went to Alton. While mutual assistance resources are dedicated to serious incidents, station coverage guarantees the community's continued fire and emergency medical services protection.
