The Attleboro Fire Department responded to a structure fire early on March 29th in a forested area near 10 Charles Street.

Crews were alerted around 3:30 a.m. to a reported major brush fire. When firemen arrived, they saw a handmade 20-by-40-foot construction about 200 feet off the road that was completely destroyed, with flames extending roughly 30 feet into the air.

Firefighters used multiple hoselines to control the fire and protect the local woodlands and residences. During suppression operations, firefighters discovered many tiny explosions, which were later found to be fireworks stashed within the structure.

Two occupants who had been living in the shelter were transported to Sturdy Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. One was treated for burns and the other evaluated for smoke inhalation. The department’s fire investigation unit responded to determine the cause. Crews remained on scene until about 5 a.m.
