PAUL SMITHS–GABRIELS, NY — March 18th — The Paul Smiths-Gabriels Fire Department responded to multiple wind-related calls throughout the district as strong winds caused damage to trees and electric wires.

Firefighters responded to many incidents throughout the day while trying to keep streets and neighborhoods safe. Officials reported that the agency has responded to 61 fire calls in 2026.

Members praised volunteers who helped throughout the day and recognized utility line crews who were working to restore power to affected neighborhoods.

Officials warned locals not to approach or touch downed wires, as they may still be electrified. Residents should presume all wires are live and report any downed wires or damaged trees to 911 or their local utility company.
