Valley Stream, NY — March 16th — A reported truck fire at the crossroads of Sunrise Highway and Bismark Avenue prompted the Valley Stream Volunteer Fire Department to react. When firefighters arrived, they discovered a loaded recycling truck with material inside that was on fire. Crews from Engine 344 extended a handline and started suppressing the fire, but it was challenging to get to the fire's seat due to the heavy recycling load.
To reach the top of the truck and help with extinguishment, Tower Ladder 345 was activated. Units from the Lynbrook Fire Department, including Engine 422 and Tower Ladder 427, went to help because the incident happened close to the Lynbrook border. Before putting out the fire, firefighters worked for approximately an hour. Anthony Capone, the Chief of Department, was in charge of the event.
