ROOSEVELT, NY — March 19th — In response to a reported working home fire, the North Merrick Fire Department, located at 2095 Camp Avenue, Merrick, NY, USA, 11566, was sent as a FAST truck to help the Roosevelt Fire Department. Together with Chiefs 6700 and 6702, Truck 678 arrived with a complete crew. The North Merrick crew was designated as the Firefighter Assist and Search squad, or FAST squad, upon arrival.

When a mayday is transmitted or firefighters need help, FAST teams are stationed around active fires to keep an eye on inside operations and act quickly. In order to increase firefighter safety and accountability, dedicated FAST teams are a regular procedure while fighting fires throughout Nassau County. Crews from North Merrick stayed on standby until the situation was resolved before going back to work.
