HICKSVILLE, NY — March 6th — On March 6, a reported basement fire on Gardner Avenue prompted the Hicksville Fire Department, located at 20 E Marie St., Hicksville, NY, to react. When firefighters arrived, they discovered that lithium batteries had overheated and caused a small fire involving sitting material on a workout rug. In addition to swiftly putting out the fire, workers examined the basement for potential extensions to adjacent materials.
Firefighters from East Meadow were called in for an engine response to help with the situation. Firefighters ventilated the area and made sure it was safe before going back to work once the fire was contained. Fire departments continue to be increasingly concerned about lithium battery incidents because of the heat and ignition risk involved with battery failure. There were no reported injuries.
