Fire Erupts at MCI Norfolk; Quick Response Prevents Major Damage
Norfolk, MA - On 25th February 2026 at approximately 1:24 PM, Norfolk Fire received reports of heavy smoke in the hallway at MCI Norfolk. A full recall was issued, and a line box assignment was requested.
Firefighters arriving on the scene observed black smoke emanating from one of the housing units. A hose line was immediately deployed, and crews encountered heavy smoke and fire conditions on the second floor. While extinguishing the fire, crews conducted a thorough search of the building to ensure no one remained inside.
The fire was quickly brought under control, and overhaul operations were completed to secure the area. Norfolk Fire extended thanks to the MECC and all mutual aid partners who assisted during the incident. The Department of Correction is currently investigating the cause of the fire.
