Mutual Aid Activated for Electrical Fire Near Solar Fields

Perth, NY — March 16th — On County Highway 107, close to the solar fields of Broadalbin-Perth Elementary School, the Perth Volunteer Fire Company responded to a suspected transformer fire. In accordance with a joint mutual assistance agreement, the Broadalbin Volunteer Fire Company was also sent to respond to the electrical fire. When crews arrived, they assessed the energized equipment and secured the area.
Transformer fires might involve ignitable insulating oil and pose electrical risks. Before operations start, firefighters usually collaborate with the local utility company to make sure power is disconnected. Firefighters removed the area and resumed their duties after assessing the situation and addressing the hazard. There were no reported injuries.
