At 12:04 pm on March 18, the Limerick Fire Department was dispatched to a four-vehicle accident on Route 422 WB. Deputy 51, Chief 51, Rescue 51, 51 Fire Police, Freedom Valley EMS, and PA State Police responded. Dispatch reported there were conflicting reports on whether anyone was entrapped. Deputy 51 arrived, confirmed that one occupant was trapped in their vehicle, and assumed 422 Command.
Rescue 51 crews promptly stabilized the occupied vehicle and performed a door pop to safely extricate the driver, who was able to exit the vehicle on his own. There were no injuries to all involved individuals. Fire Police navigated getting traffic flow back down the 422 WB shoulder during the incident due to the closure of the travel lane for construction, and the fast lane was restricted due to the accident. Traffic had been at a complete standstill.
Auto Rescue safely removed all the vehicles from the scene, and 422 WB was open, and Limerick was made available after only an hour of incident operations.
This was the first of five calls of the day for the department. The other calls consisted of two fire alarms, one gas odor, and one reported vehicle fire.
