(OCALA, FL.) March 16, 2023 – On Thursday, March 16, at approximately 4:29 p.m., Ocala Fire Rescue responded to reports of a vehicle fire at Cummins Sales and Service, 321 SW 52nd Ave.

While Engine 4 and Rescue 4 were en route, the caller advised that the burning vehicle was an RV.  At 4:31 p.m., Engines 1, Squad 7, Battalion Chief 11, and a Safety Officer were dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, units found a Class A motorhome parked in the business’s lot, filled with smoke. Crews assessed the motor home’s exterior, finding flames in a battery compartment.

Using a pre-connected hose, firefighters doused the fire and proceeded to make entry. Firefighters encountered high heat and low visibility, indicating that the fire continued to burn outside plain view. As fire conditions evolved, crews switched to a defensive mode, applying water through ventilation points from the exterior.

Once the fire was under control, crews entered the motor home searching for hotspots, doused and disconnected all batteries - including lithium batteries neutralized with a foaming agent - and disconnected the solar panels above the unit.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is unknown.

Ocala Fire Rescue’s Engine 6 and Marion County Fire Rescue’s Medic 20 also responded.
