Propane Leak Safely Contained After Falling Ice Damages Line

Orland, ME - Fire crews were dispatched just before 9 a.m. to a reported propane leak at a residence on Heritage Lane, caused by falling ice. Five members of the OFD responded to the scene with Engine 511, Rescue 581, and additional personnel arriving by personal vehicles, while two firefighters remained on standby at the station.

Upon arrival, crews found propane venting from a damaged line. Firefighters quickly secured the tanks, successfully stopping the leak. As a precaution, four gas meters were used to check the residence and surrounding area for any explosive gas levels, with none detected.

The scene was deemed safe, and the residence was returned to the occupants, who had already contacted their propane company for necessary repairs. This incident marked the department’s 24th call of the year.
