Police arrested a driver for DWI after crashing into a tree in Delmar on Monday, January 31.
The Bethlehem Police Department Telecommunications Center received a 911 call just before 10:30 p.m. on Monday, January 31, for a car crashed into a tree at the intersection of Winne Road and McGuffey Lane, in the area of the Hamagrael Elementary School, according to Bethlehem Police.
Delmar and Slingerlands fire departments were dispatched with Delmar-Bethlehem EMS and Albany County Paramedics after it was reported there may be two individuals pinned inside the vehicle.
“Upon arrival, Bethlehem Police units observed a 2021 Hyundai off the roadway at the intersection, having struck a tree head-on along with a tree against the driver’s side door,” according to a statement from Bethlehem Police.
Fire chiefs arrived on scene and discovered no entrapment, just a tree alongside the driver’s side door.
The two occupants were assisted out of the car with the help of first responders.
The driver of the car appeared to show signs of intoxication, leading police to perform field sobriety tests on the driver.
“Through investigation it was determined that the vehicle was traveling south in Winne Road when the operator failed to stop at the stop sign and entered the wooded area off the south side of McGuffey Lane, before coming to a rest against the trees,” according to police.
Police said the front-seat passenger was evaluated by EMS and transported to Albany Memorial Hospital.
The driver, a 26-year-old female of Ravena, refused medical attention but was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated, police said.
